In coordination with the City of Norfolk and Keep Norfolk Beautiful Division, this will be the GNL’s kick off project. The GNL is planning a full-year series of events to beautify our Ghent neighborhood while providing opportunities to become better acquainted with neighbors and enjoy camaraderie with a post-event social.
This GNL Clean Up project will focus on trash pickup (and shrub trimming, for those interested) around Maury High School, a historic building in our neighborhood. Teams will focus their cleanup efforts on Shirley Avenue, Llewellyn Ave, 20th Street and DeBree/ Washington. As well as surrounding areas of 21st street and Colonial Ave. On-site orientation will be provided. The GNL has been provided special City of Norfolk permission to trim selected shrubbery at this event. Please bring your own manual trimmers, if interested in shrub trimming.
This project will observe all Covid-19 directives. Guidelines will include maintaining appropriate social distancing and the wearing of facial masks when within 6′ of others.
All participants will be provided water, sanitary gloves (feel free to bring your garden gloves), vest, and garbage bags. Those interested in shrub trimming will receive basic training with guidelines on how to properly complete this task. Please bring your own manual trimmers if possible (no electric of gas). ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD WEAR CLOSED TOED SHOES.
This GNL event is being held in partnership with the City of Norfolk, the Ghent Business Association (GBA), and other surrounding organizations that help make Ghent a great place to live! We encourage all to join in this neighborhood work effort. Your time investment will help.
